There are so many different versions of Christmas tunes that it was hard to pick my favorites, but I've come down to 20 that I think are the best country Christmas songs around. There's traditional artists like George Strait, country popsters like SHeDAISY, and one from Riders in the Sky, who give us a little Western-styled country Christmas to enjoy.
Merry Christmas!

Curb RecordsKathy Mattea's version is my favorite of this song, but it wasn't available to download. Kenny Rogers & Wynonna do a great job on this wonderful song, so I'm including their version here. It's nice to hear this song performed as a duet. From Kenny Rogers album
The Gift.

Capitol NashvilleI think there are a lot of people nowadays that can relate, unfortunately, to the lyrics in this song. He gets laid off from the factory before Christmas and can't get his daughter any gifts. But, he has plans for the following summer, to move, maybe to California. Just the acoustic arrangement of this song makes it feel like Merle is right there singing to you. From Merle Haggard's
Hag's Christmas album.

Word EntertainmentThe Oak Ridge Boys give "Christmas Cookies" a western swing feel. They sing about all the sweet cookies that their ladies make them that are shaped like bells and stars, with sprinkley things on top. Yummy! This is from the Oak Ridge Boys'
Christmas Cookies album.

Rounder RecordsI just had to include a track from Riders in the Sky's holiday album
Christmas the Cowboy Way. This song tells the story of the Three Wise Men who visited the baby Jesus. The Riders' harmonies excel here. Lovely!

Lyric Street RecordsI love the contemporary arrangement of this traditional Christmas classic. The Osborne sister's harmonies make it even more special. From SHeDAISY's

MCA NashvilleThis story seems like it could be about any child, but of course, we know that isn't the case. She's singing about how Joseph loved Jesus, even though he wasn't his child. Great story sung by a woman with one of the most beautiful voices in any genre of music. I love the line
"He grew up with his hands in wood. And He died with his hands in wood." Skip Ewing wrote this song, and I think his lyrical images are amazing. From
Trisha Yearwood's
Sweetest Gift holiday album.
