Number One Country Albums of 2007

By Shelly Fabian, About.com

Every artist dreams of having a number one album, yet most do not attain this status. All of the albums on this list were released in 2007, and spent time at the top of Billboard's Country Album charts. I'm listing them from the album with the most weeks spent at No. 1 to the album with the least weeks spent at No. 1. All chart information on these artists is based on Billboard Magazine's Hot Country Singles and Country Albums Charts.

1. Carrie Underwood - Some Hearts

Although it came out in 2005, Carrie Underwood's debut album is still selling strong. It spent nine weeks on the top of the Country Albums charts this year.

2. Taylor Swift - Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift - Taylor Swift (Deluxe Limited Edition)Big Machine
Taylor Swift's self-titled debut was released in the fall of 2006, however a Limited Deluxe edition of the album was released in 2007 with four additional tracks and a DVD with all her videos, plus several other video pieces, including a home movie that Taylor edited herself. The interesting thing about Taylor's album, is that it didn't originally debut at No. 1. It took 39 weeks to do so. This is something that doesn't often happen. Most of the time, if an artist is going to receive a No. 1 album, it's going to happen the first week of release. The popularity of Taylor's third single, "Our Song" which became her first No. 1 song, helped to increase the popularity of her album.

3. The Eagles - Long Road Out Of Eden

Eagles - Long Road Out of EdenEagles Recording Company
While the Eagles are probably an influence of many artists and groups in country music. They really are more of a rock group with some country undertones. This release was their country release, and even though it was only available to purchase through Wal-Mart, Sam's Club and on their Official website, the album has done extremely well. About 3 million copies well. It spent five weeks on the Country Albums chart this year.

4. Brad Paisley - 5th Gear

Brad Paisley - 5th GearArista Nashville
Brad Paisley's 5th Gear was a favorite of six out of the seven of your AboutCountry staff members that created Best of 2007 lists. We are hardly alone in that thought, as the album spent four weeks on the top of the Country Album charts in 2007.

5. Rascal Flatts - Still Feels Good

Rascal Flatts - Still Feels GoodLyric Street Records
Rascal Flatts had a lot of work ahead of them, trying to top their previous album, Me and My Gang, which sold over three million copies. That album ended 2006 as the Best selling album of any genre, and that's a lot to try and top. Still Feels Good did not match the numbers of their previous disc, but it's certainly no slouch, having sold over 1,000,000 copies since it came out at the end of September 2007, and still going strong.

6. Dixie Chicks - Taking the Long Way

Even though the Dixie Chicks don't want anything to do with Country Music, their big wins at the Grammy's provided them with a boost to their sales, and for three weeks in March after the Grammy broadcast, their album topped the Country Album charts.

7. Tim McGraw - Let It Go

Tim McGraw and No. 1 albums go hand in hand, and Let It Go debuted on the top of the charts and remained there for a total of three weeks in April of 2007.

8. Rascal Flatts - Me and My Gang

Rascal Flatts released Me and My Gang in 2006, and the album ended up as the top selling album in any genre. Like Carrie Underwood's Some Hearts, the popularity of this album carries over into 2007, and the album held the No. 1 spot for two weeks in January 2007.

9. Gary Allan - Greatest Hits

Gary Allan released his Greatest Hits album in March of 2007, where it debuted at No. 1 on the charts.

10. Various Artists - Totally Country 6

This is the latest compilation album to contain hits from various different labels. It debuted at No. 1 in February 2007. Artists included on this disc are: Carrie Underwood, Brad Paisley, Montgomery Gentry, Phil Vassar, Sugarland, and many others.
