Each year we see a new class of stars appear on the country music horizon. Sometimes an artist will have a huge hit right off the bat, and other times it may take an album or two. The stars listed as the "Class of 1991" are those that made their first impact on country music in that year.
Suzy had help from Vince Gill, Beth Nielsen Chapman and Mark O'Connor on this strong outing which includes the wonderful title track, "Letting Go," "Someday Soon," and "Outbound Plane."
When "Brand New Man" was first released, one of the phrases written about it was along the lines of "this disc is just plain fun." And that it is. Pure honky-tonkin' country music, straight from one of the best of the new traditionalists. Brooks and Dunn came on strong right from the start, showing they were not to be trifled with.
"Diamond Rio" is a superb first album, a tremendous example of excellence, with 11 fine songs that prove Diamond Rio is not just a vocal group, but a superior country band. Their picking is every bit as good as their vocal harmonies.
Sammy's first single, "Cadillac Style" was a No. 3 hit, and the album also produced several other choice cuts with "Don't Go Near the Water," "Yard Sale" and "Anywhere but Here."
Hal Ketchum's "Past the Point of Rescue" contains some of his best songs with the title cut, "Small Town Saturday Night," and "Five O'Clock World."
Tracy's powerful delivery shines on the title track, a love-gone-wrong song; he sings for the hard-working with "Somebody Paints the Wall," sorrow dripping in every note. "Runnin' Behind" speaks to everyone who just can't seem to get things together. Each song is a delight, though, not just the hits that showed Tracy was a talented force to be reckoned with.
While country audiences were introduced to Pam as "Mel Tillis's daughter," Pam quickly made her own name and her own place in the country music hierarchy. With this first major release, Pam showed she had her own voice, as well. Quirky, sharp, vibrant; Pam demonstrated what a country female voice sounded like, and it still shines today.
Aaron Tippin wrote or co-wrote all 10 tracks on this disc; as a musician, he is joined here by magnificent artists such as Mark O'Connor on mandolin and fiddle, Paul Franklin on steel, Sam Bush on fiddle, and Vince Gill on background vocals. They join together to create a country album that still stands up, just as good as it ever was.
The first single from this set was the instant classic "She's In Love With The Boy." Racing up the charts in 1991, this song quickly helped to establish Trisha Yearwood as one of the premier vocalists in any genre of music. The follow up singles all garnered Top 10 status.
