Elvis Live! There are few words said together that can bring to mind such magic. From his early years when he incited crowds to riot to the late '70s when health failings & personal problems altered his physical form to a comic parody of itself, Elvis never failed to deliver a magnificent show. His voice never faltered, & his audience never lost faith or their adoration of the man & his majesty.
On June 9, 1972, Elvis arrived in New York City for his four sold-out performances at Madison Square Garden. He was the first performer to sell out the Garden. Over the four shows, over 80,000 people watched. Captured here, this is Elvis when he was very much at the top of his game. This is the King of Rock 'n' Roll, the Mississippi hillbilly who knocked out the world, and here, New York City.
This album is not a standout Elvis concert. What it is, however, is a vitally important piece of Elvis lore; a necessary slice of his overall history. People who loved only the young Elvis and despised what he became in this final year do themselves a disservice Elvis singing "You Gave Me A Mountain" is a majestic experience.
While most people tend to think of all of Elvis' '70s shows as bloated mockeries of the svelte "King of Rock 'n' Roll," it's a gross exaggeration. On January 14, 1973, when Elvis was beamed via satellite into billions of living rooms worldwide, he was a thin, dynamite, entertainment machine.
This digitally remastered 4-disc set contains all of Elvis' recorded Las Vegas engagements, including many unreleased performances. Performances are from May 6, 1056, August 8, 1969, August 11, 1970, February 16-19, 1970, February 14-17, 1972, August 19-27, 1974, and March 30, and December 5, 1975.
This album was recorded in March 1974 at the Memphis Midsouth Coliseum. This album is worth having as Elvis is in exceptional voice, and besides the normal stuff you hear on other live albums of this period, you get "Trying To Get To You," "My Baby Left Me," and "Lawdy Miss Clawdy."
