Each year, country music puts out some outstanding albums. AboutCountry reviewer Jolene Downs gives us her choices for the Top 10 Albums for 2003.
Terri Clark is a lady who definitely knows what she wants and has no problems going after it. With "I Just Wanna Be Mad," hitting #1, Terri has shown us that her latest album will keep her in the forefront of the country music scene.
"I Want My Money Back" includes some really good songs and given the right promotion should push Sammy back on the charts. The overall sound of this album is much like when Sammy burst on the country music scene a few years ago. He has some slower, ballad type songs.
Marty Stuart has brought real country music back with his latest release. One of the standout songs on the album was co-written by Marty and his wife Connie Smith. Merle Haggard joins Marty Stuart to sing "Farmers Blues."
Once more, Brad puts out an album of traditional country music showcasing his fantastic guitar playing, great songwriting (he wrote or co-wrote 10 of the 16 songs on the album), and mellow singing voice. If you enjoyed Brad's previous two albums, this one will be another favorite.
Wynonna was a star as a member of the Judds in the 80s and was a solo star in the 90's and now after some time off, she's back with a new album and her voice has never sounded better. Featuring 14 strong songs, the album is a vibrant return to her country roots.
Alan's Greatest Hits Vol. 2 is a very solid album & a great addition to any collection. His 30 No. 1 singles have proven that Alan has the musical talent, & his down home manners have made him a huge favorite with the fans. Alan is here to stay.
'Wildwood Flower' is June Carter Cash's last album. She chose several of her favorite songs to include, and her album wouldn't be complete without a song to showcase her humor. John Carter Cash produced the album, and the finished product is more like a family gathering to share their music than a cold studio album.
This album is an absolute must for the Patty Loveless fan. If you aren't familiar with Patty and her music, but love traditional country music sung from the heart, then this is the perfect album to start your collection. You won't be disappointed. They also include an extra disc for your DVD player with videos of past and present music along with a photo gallery of publicity photos.
There's no doubt this South Carolina native has what it takes. If he continues to follow those who inspired him, such as old Hank and Johnny Cash and Randy Travis, he's going to stay in really good company. Keepin' it this country, the boy can't go wrong.
When you add up the performances throughout the duration of "Room To Breathe," Reba has created her best and most self-assured album yet. With truly something for every country fan, the album is sure to become a big hit with old and new fans alike.
