Top 10 Top Picks - Jennifer Webb's Top 10 Albums for 2003.

By Shelly Fabian, About.com

Each year, country music puts out some outstanding albums. AboutCountry reviewer Jennifer Webb gives us her choices for the Top 10 Albums for 2003.

1. Long Black Train - Josh Turner

There's no doubt this South Carolina native has what it takes. If he continues to follow those who inspired him, such as old Hank and Johnny Cash and Randy Travis, he's going to stay in really good company. Keepin' it this country, the boy can't go wrong.

2. On Your Way Home - Patty Loveless

This album is an absolute must for the Patty Loveless fan. If you aren't familiar with Patty and her music, but love traditional country music sung from the heart, then this is the perfect album to start your collection. You won't be disappointed. They also include an extra disc for your DVD player with videos of past and present music along with a photo gallery of publicity photos.

3. Room To Breathe - Reba McEntire

When you add up the performances throughout the duration of "Room To Breathe," Reba has created her best and most self-assured album yet. With truly something for every country fan, the album is sure to become a big hit with old and new fans alike.

4. The Jealous Kind - Chris Knight

Chris Knight writes songs that are gems and will not be forgotten anytime soon. I know that I could listen to this album and never get tired of it, which is a rarity from any genre, let alone country music.

5. Long Way To Mexico - Roger Creager

If I were to pick only one word to describe "Long Way To Mexico," I would have to go with variety. Every song sounds so unique yet they all manage to fit together somehow - it really is pretty darn amazing. This being my first Roger Creager album (though I am familiar with his other work) it really makes me want to go out and buy his previous two albums.

6. Dierks Bentley - Dierks Bentley

With many different facets that make their appearance on Dierks' debut album, one can only look forward to hearing more music from this talented new artist.

7. See If I Care - Gary Allan

Gary's talent shines through on the release and the song selects are perfectly suited for his voice. The only bad thing about this album is the fact that there are only eleven songs, and I would have loved to hear a bunch more.

8. One Step Ahead - Rhonda Vincent

You'll be hard pressed to find someone who has a strong voice singing both slow and faster songs, but Rhonda Vincent has that immense amount of talent. She can sing and play the mandolin with the best of any other bluegrass musician and her songs are almost always guaranteed to grab the listener by the heart and draw them into their emotions.

9. Billy Currington - Billy Currington

When it comes to the rest of the album, there really isn't a "stinker" to be found. "Billy Currington" is the kind of album that any artist could dream of making. There are the sensitive ballads, the fun songs and the true-to-life stories mostly found in country music. This is one album that's should be owned by every country fan.

10. Buddy Jewell - Buddy Jewell

Buddy's waited 10 years for this, and with this collection of songs he will still be around 10 years to come. It's a definite breath of fresh air for those that like traditional country, yet contemporary enough to still do well on radio. Go Buddy! You still have my vote.
