There are new albums coming out all the time. We've picked several of the best country releases from March 2003.
It's always nice to find a singer who can embrace the traditional sounds of country music, the hillbilly sound of the backwoods Appalachians, the simple quality that makes country music COUNTRY, while at the same time presenting it with a fresh, modern, and wholly contemporary sound. This is quite easily one of the finest debut albums I've heard.
With the 11 songs presented on his debut for Broken Bow, one thing is certain, Craig Morgan is a man who wears his heart on his sleeve & has lived virtually every song he's sung. This means Craig is a convincing vocalist who has recorded a special record that deserves to be heard.
You may not know his name but you surely know his voice. Marty Raybon is the former front man for the band Shenandoah, and also was a duo with his brother Tim. After his career in both those groups, Marty embarked on a solo career, first as a gospel artist, then a country artist and now a bluegrass artist.
It has been awhile since Deana Carter released a regular album but now the wait is over. "I'm Just A Girl" contains twelve brand new tracks, all of which were written or co-written by the artist herself, while Deana's friend Matraca Berg is the co-writer of two of th
The Derailers may not be a household name, nor will they likely ever be, but they're a band that "does their own thing" & are respected by fans and critics alike. They are a treasure to the genre that is country music and showcase a sound that is missing from the airwaves today.
Kershaw has definitely hit the jackpot with his musical choices. While there are some different techno sounds used in some of the songs, the overall flavor is back to the country sound. He also went more acoustic with the whole thing. All of the songs are great, and the whole CD just flows, making it a fun listen no matter what you are doing.
Hal Ketchum is a poet and an artist's artist. He's never going to be "the next big thing" nor is he gonna "disappear." Like songwriter Marcus Hummon, Hal Ketchum is an artist who writes what he feels. Hal Ketchum truly is a treasure that far too many people never listen to. If you want to hear wonderfully written songs by a talented artist, then "The King Of Love" is for you.
This is a delightfully eccentric collection of oddball covers & Cash originals which continues the Cash legacy with impressive style and grace. This disc may only appeal to hardcore Cash fans; but it doesn't matter, as it seems that at his age, Johnny Cash is making music he likes; it's not country, it's not rock, it's not folk, but it is all of those things and more.
