Each year, country music puts out some outstanding albums. These are About reviewer Matt Bjorke's choices for his Top 10 for the year.
Who would have known back in 1989 that when a blond-haired singer hit the country music scene, that he would achieve such a superstar status in a relatively short span of time. Along with Garth Brooks and George Strait, Alan Jackson has continuously put out great tradition sounding country music for the fans to enjoy.
Deryl Dodd is a fighter and he came back in full force with "Pearl Snaps." The songs on this release are suited just right for his voice and you can tell where his musical roots are firmly planted.
"No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems" is Kenny's seventh release including his multi-Platinum selling "Greatest Hits" album. He continues to follow in the footstept of his buddy Tim McGraw in picking songs that are radio-friendly, and sure hits. He also co-wrote two songs. "Dreams," and "I Can't Go There" are both gems on an album that sparkles like 24 karat gold.
With 12 awesome tracks and a wonderful baritone voice, Anthony Smith is decidedly modern while also having some "outlaw" country tendencies. Those who love witty lyrics & solid country production, will love this CD.
With twelve sturdy tracks, Joe Nichols has positioned himself as one of Country Music's rising superstars. With more songs like the ones on this album, Joe and his smooth baritone are sure to become fixtures on the country charts.
The album contains the Top 5 singles, with "Long Time Gone," and "Landslide," and a cover of Bruce Robison's "Travelin' Soldier." Add to that a spirited instrumental named for Natalie's son, "Little Jack Slade," and you have another winning album.
Don't imagine that Travis is getting stale. On the contrary, he amply demonstrates in the new "Strong Enough" that his music remains powerful, contemporary, true to his roots, and 100% Tritt. His masterful style of hard-rockin' country goes straight into high gear with the burning opening track and continues through to the end with solid consistency.
If you enjoyed keith's self-titled debut, you'll love this collection of songs. He has more Top 5 material here, and the album is just something you can put on and totally enjoy at any time.
"Melt" is the sophomore project for Rascal Flatts. Their self-titled debut was quite successful, selling Platinum. In fact, they are one of only three groups to do this as a debut artist, the other two being the Dixie Chicks and SHeDAISY. Having said that, I have to say that "Melt" is just as good if not even better than their debut album. So, no sophomore slump here.
Pinmonkey spashed on the Nashville club scene not too long ago and quickly amassed a loyal following. That following lead to some word-of-mouth popularity which in turn lead to a "bidding war" by Nashville's major labels to sign the band. While they signed with BNA, they released "Speak No Evil" to rave reviews.
