Top 10 Top Picks - Matt Bjorke's Top 10 Albums for 2003

From Shelly Fabian, for About.com

Each year, country music puts out some outstanding albums. AboutCountry reviewer Matt Bjorke gives us his choices for the Top 10 Albums for 2003.

1. Pain To Kill - Terri Clark

Terri Clark is a lady who definitely knows what she wants and has no problems going after it. With "I Just Wanna Be Mad," hitting #1, Terri has shown us that her latest album will keep her in the forefront of the country music scene.[

2. Jimmy Wayne - Jimmy Wayne

Jimmy Wayne has only recently stuck his feet into the waters of country music and so far his experience has been good because he has already played the Opry and had a top ten Billboard single.

3. Room To Breathe - Reba McEntire

When you add up the performances throughout the duration of "Room To Breathe," Reba has created her best and most self-assured album yet. With truly something for every country fan, the album is sure to become a big hit with old and new fans alike.

4. Livin' Lovin Losin': Songs of the Louvin Brothers - Various Artists

When you add all the songs together, they are tastefully well-done and the CD, 'Livin' Lovin' Losin" Songs Of The Louvin Brothers' is one of the best to be released in the new decade. This CD won't be for everyone but those who love traditional country music will savor the special recordings here for they truly are some of the finest tributes I've ever heard.

5. Long Black Train - Josh Turner

There's no doubt this South Carolina native has what it takes. If he continues to follow those who inspired him, such as old Hank and Johnny Cash and Randy Travis, he's going to stay in really good company. Keepin' it this country, the boy can't go wrong.

6. See If I Care - Gary Allan

Gary's talent shines through on the release and the song selects are perfectly suited for his voice. The only bad thing about this album is the fact that there are only eleven songs, and I would have loved to hear a bunch more.

7. Buddy Jewell - Buddy Jewell

Buddy's waited 10 years for this, and with this collection of songs he will still be around 10 years to come. It's a definite breath of fresh air for those that like traditional country, yet contemporary enough to still do well on radio.

8. Honkytonkville - George Strait

After 50-plus No. 1. hit singles George Strait has earned the right to rest on his laurels. However, George doesn't do that and has issued his most relaxed vocal performance ever with his new CD "Honkytonkville."

9. Dierks Bentley - Dierks Bentley

With many different facets that make their appearance on Dierks' debut album, one can only look forward to hearing more music from this talented new artist.

10. Fate's Right Hand - Rodney Crowell

One of the best songwriter's from any genre is how I would describe Rodney. His songs have multiple layers of depth along with introspective lyrics and melodies that very few others have in their music. Because of the talent this artist has, you definitely get your money's worth on "Fate's Right Hand."
