Top 6 Top Picks - Mercury Nashville Artists

By Shelly Fabian, About.com

Mercury Nashville is a division of the Universal Music Group. The artists on the roster are Steve Azar, Terri Clark, Daisy Dern, Meredith Edwards, Tom T. Hall, Marcel, David Nail, Jamie O'Neal, James Otto, Anthony Smith, Keith Stegall, Shania Twain, and Mark Wills. Only artists with released albums are listed below.

1. Waitin' on Joe - Steve Azar

With a decidedly uptempo collection of songs, Steve Azar is one of those artists who doesn't need to sing a ballad to get on the radio. He's more of a country rock artist than a contemporary country singer, which there isn't enough of in Nashville these days.

2. Fearless - Terri Clark

Terri has mentioned several times that this is her most "personal" album yet. She co-wrote 8 of the 12 songs here. While there are no tracks that I dislike, I will say that the album is rather ballad-heavy. Most of the songs are either ballads or mid-tempo tunes, with only one upbeat song, "To Tell You Everything."

3. Reach - Meredith Edwards

Her first single, "A Rose Is A Rose," was popular on CMT, yet only made it to number thirty-seven on Billboard and her second release, "The Bird Song," made its way to forty-seven. A honky tonk beat can be found on the uptempo "Slow Learner" and "In Any Given Moment" you can hear her softer side as she sings about fate.

4. Shiver - Jamie O'Neal

"Shiver" is Jamie O'Neal's debut album. It may be our first listen to her as an artist, but it's not the first as a songwriter. O'Neal has written songs that were recorded by LeAnn Rimes, Chely Wright, and Tammy Cochran. She's also recorded background vocals on records by Mindy McCready, Clay Davidson, Jason Sellers, Chely Wright, Ronnie Milsap, Sonya Issacs and others.

5. Come On Over - Shania Twain

This is Shania's most popular and best-selling CD with hits like "Man, I Feel Like a Woman!," "You're Still The One," "That Don't Impress Me Much," and "You've Got a Way" have made this album the #1 selling album anywhere with over 19 million copies sold.

6. Permanently - Mark Wills

Two of the three singles were successes. "Back at One," which soared to No. 2, and "Almost Doesn't Count," which hit #16. The third single, "Everything There Is To Know About You" didn't do as well. But, there are also other songs that make this album worth having.
