Top 10 Top Picks - Jennifer Webb's Top 10 Albums for 2004

From Shelly Fabian, for About.com

Each year, country music puts out some outstanding albums. AboutCountry reviewer Jennifer Webb gives us her choices for the Top 10 Albums for 2004.

1. Keith Urban - Be Here

As the follow-up to Keith's, Double-Platinum-selling "Golden Road," "Be Here" delivers more of the guitar-driven music that Keith Urban fans love. From the fast paced "Days Go By" to the melancholy "Tonight I Wanna Cry" and everything in between, "here" is a good place to be.

2. Zona Jones - Harleys & Horses

After listening to this album, there is no question why Tracy Byrd and Mark Chesnutt praise the music of lawyer-turned country musician Zona Jones. Listening to 'Harleys & Horses,' you can tell his influences (George Jones, George Strait, & Merle Haggard) are some of the best & have given him inspiration for his high quality music.

3. BR549 - Tangled In The Pines

If you want country music that is contemporary yet also has a retro cool sound to it, 'Tangled In The Pines' is for you.

4. David Ball - Freewheeler

Tired of the pop country that still comes out of Nashville? Why not buy 'Freewheeler,' from a tried and true country music artist whose music is always guaranteed to be consistent. From stone cold country to Cajun-tinged melodies and everything in between, you can't go wrong with this album.

5. Deryl Dodd - Stronger Proof

Deryl Dodd is one of those artists who I feel puts out a steady stream of energetic, hard-core rockin' country in each and every album. 'Stronger Proof' is strong proof that Deryl is one fine country music artist with a long career ahead of him.

6. Jason Boland - Somewhere In The Middle

Jason Boland & The Straggler's 'Somewhere In The Middle' album has that Texas country music sound with a little bit of Oklahoma red-dirt thrown in for good measure. With each track you get a unique sound that takes you to different places both lyrically and musically.

7. Trent Willmon - Trent Willmon

Trent has that country sound I like to hear. When I heard him say: "When I drink beer, everybody's my best friend." I knew he was going to be good. Not too bad to look at either. He's one of my CD player's new best friend. A beer man that I hear can repair your car in the morning, cater your dinner party in the evening, ride the roughest bronco, and sing the sweetest love songs. On this album you'll find all kinds of emotions going on, and Trent can sing them all. What a voice!!!!

8. Julie Roberts - Julie Roberts

Julie Roberts has, along with producer Brent Rowan, picked a fine bunch of songs that create one cohesive debut album. This is a great record from an important new country voice.

9. Jedd Hughes - Transcontinental

If you want a unique blend of country with some bluegrass and contemporary sound thrown in, 'Transcontinental' is for you.

10. Alecia Nugent - Alecia Nugent

There are many theories as to why more and more people are turning to the pure, acoustical sound that bluegrass offers; but talent like Alecia Nugent coming on the scene certainly doesn't hurt. She has her own style and is not lacking in the talent department. This CD is candy for your ears and well worth checking out.
