Top 10 Top Picks - Shelly Fabian's Top 10 Albums for 2004

From Shelly Fabian, for About.com

Each year, country music puts out some outstanding albums. Your Guide Shelly Fabian gives you her choices for the Top 10 albums of 2004.

1. Keith Urban - Be Here

As the follow-up to Keith's, Double-Platinum-selling "Golden Road," "Be Here" delivers more of the guitar-driven music that Keith Urban fans love. From the fast paced "Days Go By" to the melancholy "Tonight I Wanna Cry" and everything in between, "here" is a good place to be.

2. Rascal Flatts - Feels Like Today

Rascal Flatts have gone from being a boy band to one of the hottest groups in country music today. This collection of songs is sure to please new and old fans alike. More of the fun pop-country and great harmonies.

3. Sugarland - Twice the Speed of Life

Sugarland, coupled together with producer Garth Fundis, have created one heck of a debut album. While not traditional country music, it’s not overtly modern either. The album features a nice balance of modern and traditional, acoustic and electric sounds. Sugarland is a band that has what it takes to be around for a long while ahead. Anyone who loves strong songwriting should check out “Twice The Speed Of Life.”

4. Zona Jones - Harleys and Horses

After listening to this album, there is no question why Tracy Byrd and Mark Chesnutt praise the music of lawyer-turned country musician Zona Jones. Listening to 'Harleys & Horses,' you can tell his influences (George Jones, George Strait, & Merle Haggard) are some of the best & have given him inspiration for his high quality music.

5. Gretchen Wilson - Here For The Party

Country music has been looking for a hot new female artist for quite some time now. Gretchen Wilson is the answer to they’re prayers with her traditional country leaning songs and voice.

6. Blake Shelton - Blake Shelton's Barn & Grill

In his third release, Blake Shelton releases a great selection of songs. Whether he is singing about a relationship gone bad in "Goodbye Time," asking his girlfriend to love "nobody but me," or the hard luck story of "Some Beach," Blake is equally good.

7. Brad Cotter - Patient Man

Good solid debut album from the winner of Nashville Star's second season. Spotlights both Brad's songwriting and his soulful voice.

8. Josh Gracin - Josh Gracin

Josh's album is filled with great pop-country songs such as those from Rascal Flatts or Lonestar. If you like either of those groups, you'll enjoy the songs Josh has included on this debut album. They're highly singable and should do well on country radio.

9. George Strait - 50 Number Ones

Consistent. If there was ever a dictionary definition for George Strait that’s what it’d say; consistent. No other artist still recording today has had as big an impact on modern country music than George Strait. 50 Number Ones is a remarkable retrospective on George’s still strong career. For anyone who didn’t want to shell out the bucks for his box set, this is a must have collection for a true country music fan.

10. Joe Nichols - Revelation

Joe Nichols continues in the type of traditional country music he included on his debut album, 'Man With a Memory.' All the songs have a good story to them, however there is an overabundance of slow tempo songs.
