Top 10 Top Picks - Jennifer Webb's Top 10 Albums for 2005

From Jennifer Webb, for About.com

Each year, country music puts out some outstanding albums. AboutCountry staff writer Jennifer Webb gives us her choices for the Top 10 Albums for 2005.

1. Lee Ann Womack - There's More Where That Came From

If you were disappointed in Lee Ann Womack's last album, 'Something Worth Leaving Behind,' fear not because the traditional Lee Ann Womack is back. 'There's More Where That Came From' has a total of thirteen tracks, each with their own country sound - which is something true fans of the genre will appreciate.

2. Martina McBride - Timeless

They say that everything that's old is new again. Well that is sure the case with Martina McBride's new CD called 'Timeless.' You get 18 classic country songs from the 60's and 70's that made country music great! This is one that you will definitely want to give a listen to.

3. Dierks Bentley - Modern Day Drifter

With music similar to that found on his Platinum-selling debut, he follows the adage "Why fix what ain't broke." This one is sure to do as well as his debut, if not even better. The tunes really seem to fit him, even those that he didn't co-write. If you like your country with some rock, and a touch of bluegrass, this album is a perfect choice for your collection.

4. Gary Allan - Tough All Over

Southern California surfer turned country music singer-song writer. His sixth album, a much needed one for him to heal because of the loss of his wife. There are no love songs on this album, it didn't make sense to have any on this one because of the healing process he was going through. This album comes the closest to where he was at in his life while making it. That is what country music is all about, real life, real situations. This is a great album, one not to be missed.

5. Patty Loveless - Dreaming My Dreams

The whole album is very bluegrass sounding, but some songs are geared more toward country radio. If you liked her 'Mountain Soul' or 'On Your Way Home' albums, or just Patty Loveless music in general, you should give this amazing album a listen.

6. Brad Paisley - Time Well Wasted

I'm just about willing to grant Brad Paisley the crown as today's king of feel-good real country music. His songs are chipper, cheerful, fun to listen to, and always so very true to the heart of country music you cannot argue there's any lack of grit. This stuff is so country it's out in the field chewing on a straw. Not to say he can't and doesn't touch the heart. Brad's new disc is just as warm and wonderful as his first ones were: fun, sweet, and real.

7. Miranda Lambert - Kerosene

If you want an album with twelve outstanding tracks from a really great new artist, 'Kerosene' is for you. Produced by Frank Liddell and Mike Wrucke with Buddy Miller on background vocals you can't go wrong with this album.

8. Billy Currington - Doin' Somethin' Right

Releasing his Sophomore album after a successful debut album with the incredible song written about a child witnessing his father stumbling around being drunk, vowing to not make that same mistake "Walk A Little Straighter" (he wrote the chorus at 12.) He shows us that he can write other songs as well by co-writing 4 of the 11 tracks. Billy goes from romantic ballads to some pretty up-tempo countryfied songs.Included, a duet with the legendary Michael McDonald on "She's Got A Way With Me."

9. Rhonda Vincent - Ragin' Live

The bottom line is that Rhonda Vincent is one of the best bluegrass singers and mandolin players in the business. If you want to be a witness to her talent, then buy 'Ragin' Live.' Not only can you buy a live CD, you can also view the concert that was held in Missouri.

10. Ray Scott - My Kind of Music

This is truly one of the best CD's I have listened to in a long time. Ray Scott has a great baritone and the songs have lots of steel and make you want to find the nearest Honky Tonk and dance the night away. It is a very traditional CD and brings back hope that country music may be back on the right track. If you love real country music, you will love this CD.
