Each year, country music puts out some outstanding albums. AboutCountry staff writer Jolene Downs gives us her choices for the Top 10 Albums for 2005.
With music similar to that found on his Platinum-selling debut, he follows the adage "Why fix what ain't broke." This one is sure to do as well as his debut, if not even better. The tunes really seem to fit him, even those that he didn't co-write. If you like your country with some rock, and a touch of bluegrass, this album is a perfect choice for your collection.
Over the years country music has morphed into different segments of one genre yet the one thing thats usually stayed constant is the quality of songwriting. Hot Apple Pies self-titled debut album if packed with quality songs. This is a feel-good album.
Southern California surfer turned country music singer-song writer. His sixth album, a much needed one for him to heal because of the loss of his wife. There are no love songs on this album, it didn't make sense to have any on this one because of the healing process he was going through. This album comes the closest to where he was at in his life while making it. That is what country music is all about, real life, real situations. This is a great album, one not to be missed.
If you want an album with twelve outstanding tracks from a really great new artist, 'Kerosene' is for you. Produced by Frank Liddell and Mike Wrucke with Buddy Miller on background vocals you can't go wrong with this album.
This is Kenny Chesney's most personal album yet. While not "chock full of hits," "Be As You Are" is a very good album and one that gets better each time you listen to it.
This is Garth's second box set with the same name as the first. Pretty confusing, really. While his first box set included his first six albums, this includes his last three, the 2-CD set Double Live, Sevens, & Scarecrow, plus a disc of brand new unreleased music, and a DVD with Garth interviews and concert footage.
This CD is one of the best I've listened to in a very long time. Every song was sung from the heart and invoked memories of Americana at its best. Craig has a very traditional sound, and his material fits his voice and personality like a glove. You won't find someone trying to fit with a popular 'niche' to achieve success. With Craig, he achieves success while remaining true to his love of the music he makes. This album is definitely a keeper.
If you are a fan of any one of Montgomery Gentry's songs released to radio then you will no doubt be pleased with this album. It spans the whole six-years Eddie and Troy have been releasing music, and I have to say "Here's to six more.. and then some!"
Van Zant's major label country debut is nothing to sneeze at. There simply isn't a bad track to be found on "Get Right With The Man." It's an album with 11 well done tracks that fans of the Van Zant brothers and country fans can both like.
If you were disappointed in Lee Ann Womack's last album, 'Something Worth Leaving Behind,' fear not because the traditional Lee Ann Womack is back. 'There's More Where That Came From' has a total of thirteen tracks, each with their own country sound - which is something true fans of the genre will appreciate.
